The Difference Between InkJet, Laser, and Color Laser/LED Printers

If you’re new to the world of Brother printers and printer maintenance there are two main things you need to know. The first is that Brother Toner is the superior choice for your ink, toner, and Brother Drum needs, the second is the difference between Ink-Jets, laser printers, and Color Laser/LED printers.

Ink Jet Printers spray ionized ink in tiny drops on a page to create your document. This is caused by magnetized plates that direct the ink’s path into the desired pattern. A stardard ink-jet printer has a resolution of 300 dots per inch, although the newer models like the Brother DCP-585CW have a higher resolution.

Laser printers produce your documents by shining a laser beam to produce an image on a drum. The drum is then rolled through a pool of toner and the electrically charged portions of the drum pick up the ink.

Color Laser/LED printers are types of electro-photographic printers that are pretty much identical to laser printers in most ways. Both LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and LED (Light-Emitting Diode) printers use a light source instead of a laser to create an image on the drum. The print process is identical but LEDs use the Light-Emitting Diodes to charge the drum and the other uses the Liquid Crystals. These produce a very high-quality document.

How to Replace Brother Toner Cartridges

Since we did fax ribbon last week, we figure we’re on an instructional roll. So here’s how to replace the print cartridges:

1.If you aren’t sure whether you need to replace the ink, it should say on the display screen what needs to be refilled. Close the printer’s document tray.

2. Lift the printer cover until it rests in place.

3. Pull the Brother Toner Cartridge forward and remove the empty ink cartridge. This could get sloppy, so make sure that you have an empty garbage bag handy for disposal.

4. Open the new Brother Toners. If the cartridge cover comes off when you open it, it’s okay, the cartridge is still fine.

5. Keep the Brother Toner Cartridge upright when you insert it into the empty cartridge hole. It will fit and when snug, you can pull the hook over it and snap it into place.

6. When the LCD said “Near Empty” it will need verification as to whether a brand new Brother Toner Cartridge has been inerted. To reassure your printer press one when it asks if it was a new cartridge. This resets the ink dot counter.

That’s it! Enjoy!

Brother Toner Tips: How to Replace a Fax Ribbon

If you’re all stocked up on brother toners and you’re faxes still aren’t printing the way you’d like, it may be your fax ribbon. Most of the time you’ll see an error message on the screen that says “Ribbon Empty-Reset or Replace”, which depending on you’re stress-level and caffeine intake for the day, could lead to a minor nervous breakdown.

But relax; if you can replace Brother Toner Cartridges or the Brother Drum, the fax ribbon will be a piece of cake.

  6. Insert the upper and lower right white spools into the holders.
  7. Turn the upper right spool clockwise to tighten the ribbon
  8. Turn the cartridge over and reinstall it in your machine

With Brother Toner, My Printer’s As Good As New

My printer is finicky, to say the least. She’s good most of the time, but man, when I really need her most, that’s when she gives me problems. Sometimes she refuses to print because of the print cartridges, sometimes it’s the toner. So I asked the guys at Brother Toner, and they helped me out a bit.

Apparently toner is a powder that is poured from the print cartridges. Brother toner comes in cartridges with Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black Ink (CMYK). So I bought some new Brother toner cartridges, and now my printer doesn’t complain! On BrotherToner.com I found the corresponding serial number with my current Brother toner and then I quickly ordered some color and black cartridges. For just $5.95 shipping, my toner came in a few days, and my printer is in good shape again.

Like all machines, my printer just needed some maintenance and lovin’. So for right now I’m sticking with her, and after getting those new Brother toner cartridges, I should be set for a while. And hey, nothing lasts forever, so when she dies, I’ll upgrade to a laser printer, which takes Brother Drums. But right now I’m okay with the non-electrical current printers.

Brother Toner Questions: How Does CMYK Work?

We were just talking about color printing, which begs the question, how does the CMYK model allow Brother Toner machines to print in color?

First of all, it’s important to understand what CMYK stands for: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, the only four colors of ink CMYK requires to create all of its pictures. The K actually stands for key black, because black is the central color to the process that all the other colors must line up with.

CMYK is known as a subtractive color model, because it uses black to represent the combination of every color, and white to represent a lack of color. RBG, an additive model, works in the opposite way.

From a theoretical standpoint, you really don’t need black, as it can be achieved by combining cyan, magenta, and yellow. Still, this method isn’t actually used, since it requires more ink than a black ink cartridge alone. Also, text is usually printed in black, and it’s almost impossible to align the cyan, magenta, and yellow directly on top of each other, so CMY text would be blurry. For deep black in photographs, printers sometimes layer all four CMYK inks at once.

So now you know why you need four brother toner cartridges from www.BrotherToner.com. Pretty neat, huh?
